Are Tomato, Jicama, and Cucumber Fruits or Vegetables?

All are very familiar with what is called Tomato, Jicama, and Cucumber, even since we were in kindergarten we have been taught to know what is called toman and cucumber, but do we know tomatoes and cucumbers including fruit or vegetable types?


Actually, it's a bit confusing too, because the shape of tomatoes and cucumbers is like fruit, to know this the answer must be seen from a botanical and culinary point of view. Then what about legumes, beans, corn, pumpkins, eggplant, chili peppers, and zucchini, jicama, carrots, and potatoes, which type is Fruit or Vegetable?

1. Botanical viewpoint

Seen from the point of view of botany or the study of plants, fruit is defined as plants that grow from flowers, seeds are included. While the stem, leaves, roots, and flower buds are classified as vegetables.

2. A culinary point of view

If traced through a culinary point of view is somewhat different because the benchmark is taste. Vegetables feel less sweet or more savory than sweet or sour fruits. Vegetables are also usually served in savory dishes, while fruit is processed into dessert, snacks, or drinks.

3. The type of vegetable that is actually a fruit

Then what about legumes, beans, corn, pumpkins, eggplant, chili peppers, and zucchini, jicama, carrots, and potatoes, which type is Fruit or Vegetable?

Of course, the answer is different from a culinary and botanical point of view, botany legumes, beans, corn, pumpkins, eggplant, chilies, and zucchini, including tomatoes and cucumbers, including fruit. Conversely, jicama is actually a vegetable, not a fruit, because it is a tuber. Meanwhile, beets, carrots and potatoes are indeed vegetables because they come from plant roots.
